100th Day of school
Our school celebrated the 100th day of school this week. Families were asked to make a project that had 100 of an object (e.i. 100 goldfish in a bowl). I wanted to do something original. My parents always went above and beyond, and their offspring have taken it up a notch. Surprise, Surprise. I didn't want to use an idea off of pinterest. I wanted to use my own creativity and figure it out on my own. I thought of a few ideas that were super labor intensive. I had to remind myself that this was only a KINDERGARTEN project and to get off of my high horse. So, I came up with a $2 project that definitely fit our family like a glove.
My husband is an Arborist. He works in trees. I also grew up around tree work my whole life. My Grandfather started working for Asplundh Tree in the early 1950's and then started his own tree company in Western NY in 1955. My father and a few of my uncles also stayed in the tree industry. Trees are in our blood and Goose loves them. He is proud of what his dad and his papa do for work. So... this helped us come up with our family project.
We gathered a bunch of sticks (about an hour before a huge snow storm). We broke them into 100 pieces. My hubby helped hold the foam board in place while I hot glued the seam. He then took the little boys into their room and played while Goose and I put the tree together. We got it all laid out and then I hot glued it. I stole a tire off of one of their toy tractors, added some twine, and wah-la! A tire swing. Goosie attempted to draw himself swinging (even though it looks like he's doing more falling than anything!). I really like the personal six year old touch that the drawings give.
I also made him a 100 tally mark shirt. I did get this idea off of pinterest. I found the tutorial at http://reallyquitelucky.blogspot.com/2012/02/100th-day-of-school.html. I don't have a silhouette and I didn't want to stencil it, so i just used fabric markers. It didn't come out exactly as I had hoped, but it got the job done. I'm slowly learning to not be so judgmental about my work. Here's what it came out like. (Of course I forgot to take a picture of Goose wearing it!)
Once it was on, it didn't look so bad! He enjoyed wearing it, and that's all that matters.
I also made a snack for him out of half a swiss roll and two chocolate mini donuts. I pushed a white candy pop stick them and made a 100. He was sooo excited. It was a surprise for snack time.
I'm happy it's over... now's it's on to Valentine's day!!
